The I-26 W North Carolina Welcome Center greets travelers entering the state from Virginia on Interstate 26. In addition to visitor information, this gracious center offers a fireplace and comfortable chairs for rest, interesting exhibits, and beautiful grounds.
This Welcome Center has been landscaped by the NC Department of Transportation and includes the field of day lilies shown above, resplendent in mid-summer, the winterberries in the second gallery photo, and a pollinator garden.
Ask the friendly staff for recommendations of things nearby to see and do, such as rafting on the French Broad River, visiting the Rural Heritage Museum in Mars Hill, or visiting the highest mountain east of the Mississippi, Mount Mitchell, just to the east of this location.
The Blue Ridge Heritage Trail is a program of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Partnership.
